Understanding Chakras: The Energy Centres of the Body

In Ayurveda and yogic traditions, chakras are the seven main energy centers of the body, located along the spine from the base to the crown of the head. These chakras regulate the flow of Prana (life force energy), influencing physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. When chakras are open and balanced, energy flows freely, promoting health, clarity, and vitality. However, stress, toxins, emotional trauma, and lifestyle imbalances can cause chakras to become blocked or overactive, leading to physical and mental disturbances.

The Seven Chakras & Their Importance

  1. Muladhara (Root Chakra) – Base of Spine
  • Governs stability, security, and survival instincts.
  • Imbalance leads to anxiety, fear, and lack of grounding.
  1. Swadhisthana (Sacral Chakra) – Lower Abdomen
  • Controls emotions, creativity, and sexuality.
  • Blockages cause emotional instability, low libido, and lack of creativity.
  1. Manipura (Solar Plexus Chakra) – Stomach Area
  • Governs personal power, confidence, and digestion.
  • Imbalance leads to low self-esteem, digestive issues, and lack of motivation.
  1. Anahata (Heart Chakra) – Center of Chest
  • Represents love, compassion, and relationships.
  • Blockages result in emotional detachment, heartbreak, and immune issues.
  1. Vishuddha (Throat Chakra) – Throat Area
  • Responsible for communication and self-expression.
  • Imbalance leads to throat problems, difficulty speaking, and fear of judgment.
  1. Ajna (Third Eye Chakra) – Between Eyebrows
  • Controls intuition, wisdom, and mental clarity.
  • Blocked energy causes poor decision-making, confusion, and headaches.
  1. Sahasrara (Crown Chakra) – Top of the Head
  • Represents spiritual connection and enlightenment.
  • Imbalance results in depression, lack of purpose, and disconnection from higher self.
